What Does "Off-Label Use" Mean?

"Off-label use" means that a medicine is being prescribed for a purpose, dose, or patient group that is not included in its official registration with the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), the Australian regulator for medicines. In Australia, doctors may legally prescribe medicines "off-label" if, in their clinical judgement, it is the most appropriate treatment for you. This use is considered standard medical practice when supported by evidence and clinical guidelines.

What is a Compounded Medication?

A "compounded medication" is a medicine specially prepared for an individual patient by a licensed compounding pharmacy, based on a prescription from your doctor. Compounded medications are not mass-manufactured or approved by the TGA for general use.
